Valheim Boss Tier List: All Bosses Ranked by Difficulty

Every Valheim boss, ranked by difficulty. One rule up front, because it is the whole argument: a boss is only as hard as it is at the gear you have when you meet it. That is why the rankings below do not simply follow the game’s order, and it is where most lists agree once you read past their headlines.

The brutal walls

Bonemass stops more playthroughs than anything else in the game. Not because his numbers are the biggest, but because of when he arrives: you are in half iron, everything you own does the wrong damage type, and his poison cloud punishes every mistake twice. The fix is a mace and poison mead, and the full plan is in the Bonemass guide.

Fader is the current final boss and the hardest fight in absolute terms. The difference is that by the Ashlands you know what you are doing, so he bruises rather than blindsides.

The hard fights

The Queen fights you inside a citadel where the arena is half the problem, and Moder alternates between a frost breath that freezes you solid and a flight phase where she simply leaves. Both are honest, dangerous fights. See the Moder guide for handling the air phase.

The fair fights

The Elder is a proper second boss: dangerous if you stand in the open, straightforward once you use the pillars, as covered in the Elder guide. Yagluth is the mild surprise of the list. He is the fifth boss, but you reach him with black metal and bread, and his big telegraphed attacks give you all day to move. Most rankings quietly agree he is easier than his position suggests, and they are right.

The gentle one

Eikthyr is the tutorial boss and a well designed one: he teaches dodging, blocking and preparation without ending your run. The walkthrough makes him close to a formality.

For the order to face them in and what each one unlocks, see the progression guide. Good luck at the altars!
