The Plains look like pleasant golden fields. They contain the single most notorious enemy in Valheim and will kill a mountain-geared Viking in seconds if you wander in casually.

Deathsquitos
A deathsquito is a giant mosquito that hits for enormous damage and makes a very distinctive whine before it reaches you. Learn that sound. If you hear it, stop, turn, and get your shield up.
They die to a single hit from almost anything, so the fight is entirely about not being caught off guard. Parrying one is the cleanest answer.

Fulings and their camps
Fulings are the goblin-like natives. Individually manageable, in a camp they will overwhelm you. Their villages hold the black metal, and the bigger stone-walled ones are a serious siege.
- Pull them a few at a time rather than aggroing a whole camp.
- Watch for fuling berserkers, which are far tougher than the rest.
- Fuling shamans buff the others, so kill them first.

What you are here for
Black metal from fuling camps, for the best conventional weapons in the game.
Barley and
Flax from fuling villages, which you can then farm yourself. Barley makes bread, flax makes linen.
Lox meat from lox, which makes some of the best food in the game.
Tar from tar pits, for building.

Do not enter without
- Full silver or padded armour
- Your best health food, three slots full
- A shield you are comfortable parrying with
- A bow for deathsquitos before they reach you
Once you have black metal and bread you are ready for Yagluth, and after that the Mistlands.
