A boar pen is one of the first things that makes your base feel like a home rather than a camp. It turns meat and leather from something you hunt into something that just arrives.
Build the pen first
Do this before you go looking for a boar, because you cannot lead a tamed one very far.
- Pick a flat patch near your base and wall off a square with wood.
- Make it taller than you think. Boars can get out of a low fence.
- Leave a gate, or a section you can knock out and rebuild.
- Do not put it right next to your front door. Boars are loud.
Taming
- Lure a boar into the pen. The usual method is to let it chase you in and then run out and seal it.
- Drop food on the ground:
Raspberries, Blueberries, Mushroom or carrots all work. - Leave the area, or stand well back and crouch. It will not eat while it is scared of you.
- Watch the hearts appear over it. When it is tamed it stops being hostile.
Breeding
Two tamed boars with food available will breed on their own. Piglets take a while to grow and cannot be killed for meat until they do.
Keep a few breeding and cull the rest. A steady pen gives you constant 
Boar meat for cooking and 
Leather scraps for gear, which means you stop hunting for basics entirely.
What to do with the output
Cooked boar meat is a solid early food, and boar jerky lasts 30 minutes which makes it excellent for long trips. See the food guide for how it stacks up.
