How to Get Silver in Valheim

Silver is the metal that gets you wolf armour, a silver sword and the draugr fang bow. It is also completely invisible until you have the right tool.

You need the wishbone first

The WishboneWishbone drops from Bonemass. Equip it in your utility slot and it pings when you are near something buried. There is no practical way to find silver without it.

Hunting a deposit

  1. Go to the Mountains with frost resistance sorted.
  2. Walk the slopes with the WishboneWishbone equipped and listen. The ping speeds up as you close in.
  3. When it is rapid and the visual effect is strongest, start digging with a pickaxe.
  4. Silver sits in large veins, so once you break through, keep digging. One deposit is worth a lot.
Silver country. Somewhere under all that snow is the vein the wishbone is pinging about.

Getting it home

Silver cannot go through portals. Mountains are usually far from home, so the standard approach is a small outpost partway down with a chest, then a cart or boat run. See the sailing guide for hauling.

What to make first

  • Wolf armour, which also solves the cold permanently.
  • Draugr fang bow, the best bow for a long stretch of the game.
  • Silver sword, especially strong against the undead.

With silver gear you are ready for Moder, and after that the Plains.
