How to Get Copper and Tin in Valheim

Copper and tin are your first real metals, and together they make bronze, which is the tier that unlocks portals, better tools and your first proper armour.

Copper: bigger than it looks

Copper deposits are the large mossy boulders in the Black Forest. Aim at one and it will name itself as a copper deposit.

The important thing: they extend a long way underground. Most people mine the visible lump and walk away with a fraction of it. Mine around the base, then dig down and follow the vein.

A copper deposit part way through being excavated. There is far more below the surface than above it.

Tin: along the water

Tin is much smaller, appearing as shiny deposits along the shorelines of the Black Forest, similar to flint. It is quick to mine, so grab it whenever you pass.

Making bronze

  1. Build a SmelterSmelter and a Charcoal kilnCharcoal kiln, both of which need Surtling coreSurtling core.
  2. Smelt copper ore into copper, and tin ore into tin.
  3. At a ForgeForge, combine 2 copper and 1 tin to make one bronze bar.

What to make first

  • Bronze axe, which unlocks Fine wood.
  • Bronze pickaxe, faster than antler.
  • A weapon you like, then armour. Troll armour is a fine alternative if you are short on bronze.

Happy mining!
